The week's fund-industry signal, curated: fund launches and closes, manager and servicer moves, and figures from our own registers. Every trade-press item links its source and ends with why it matters to someone who runs or services funds. Trade-press items are published only after every cited source was machine-verified; register figures are computed from the published data files. This edition has a permanent address; a factual error is corrected in place.

Launches, closes and wind-downs

Portage closes $600m fintech fund

AltAssets · 2026-09-18

Global

Portage has closed its fourth flagship venture fund on about $600m, slightly below the $655m raised by its predecessor four years ago. It still grew its wider investment platform to $7bn in assets under management. The smaller fund is a minor setback for the fintech specialist.

Palmer Square raises $241m for Excelsior hedge fund

SEC Form D · 2026-09-17

Global

Palmer Square Capital Management has raised $240.8m for Palmer Square Excelsior Investments Fund, a hedge fund it manages and advises. The offering is open with no stated maximum, so the figure is the amount sold since the first sale in 2023, not a final close.

Industry moves

From our own data

51 of 248 US public plans earned less over 10 years than they assume going forward

Public Plans Database · plan FYs 2022–2025

North America

Comparing each plan's own assumed return with its own reported 10-year investment return, 51 plans fall short of their assumption; the widest gap is New Orleans (LA) Firefighters (Louisiana): 7.50% assumed vs -0.92% earned. Ten-year windows smooth but don't settle the argument — both figures are the plans' own.

Changelog

Publication and corrections (4 entries) · latest 2026-10-19
  • 2026-10-19 — corrected 1 item summary that ended mid-sentence; no facts changed.
  • 2026-10-17 — corrected: Palmer Square Excelsior — the Hedgeweek report is no longer published; the item now cites the fund's amended Form D, which states $240,825,553 sold to date under an open offering with no stated maximum and does not describe a credit focus, so "credit-focused" is removed (Form D, filed 2026-09-17).
  • 2026-10-03 — corrected: Siguler Guff — "almost $700m through separate accounts and co-investments" → "nearly $700m in separately managed accounts"; co-investments are not part of that figure (Siguler Guff release).
  • 2026-09-18 — published.
